Latina

Founded with the name of Littoria in 1932, Latina is one of the youngest cities in Italy and the second most populous city in the Lazio region, after the capital. The era of foundation and the original name inexorably link the history of the city to one of the darkest periods in Italian history – fascism – even though the city was able to reinvent itself and adapt to modernity.

Built on the reclaimed marshes of the Agro Pontino, the city retains nothing of ancient times, but is characterized by modern and futuristic architecture with daring floor plans, peculiar to that artistic tradition. Among them is Palazzo M, whose plan is, as the name suggests, in the shape of an M; Piazza del Popolo with the Civic Tower and the “Palla al Centro” Fountain, symbol of the city itself.

For nature lovers, Latina is the ideal starting point for a naturalistic excursion in the Circeo National Park, a protected area with some species of animals in danger of extinction, found only in the Italian Apennines.
